ACCENTED BLOOMS FOR #CI38!

I had a little time yesterday to play along with the Colour Inkspirations Challenge for this week.

#CI38 colours were Powder Pink, Berry Burst, Gray Granite, Whisper White and Basic Black.

I had been using the Accented Blooms stamp set the last few days, which I will show you those cards later on. Since that set was out I thought I would use that.  I think the soft muted colours would work well with a little watercolouring on flowers.

Here is my card.

I came to the conclusion this week that I am not a fan of colouring.  So to colour this for the challenge was a little surprise.  But I think a little freestyle watercolouring can work well.  It doesn’t matter if you go out of the lines. 🙂

I used the Aquapainter and Inkpads to watercolour this. TIP: To watercolour any image I suggest several washes of colour if you want to build up the colour. Then allowing it to dry in between.  For this card I lightly washed sections with the Powder Pink and then allowed it to dry.  It only takes a few minutes.  Wash over the areas with the Gray Granite.  Then wash over again in the areas with the Powder Pink.  I did that 3 times with the Powder Pink as it is such a pale colour.  When it was all dry I washed over the centres of the flowers with the Berry Burst ink.  I allowed it to dry before washing again with the Berry Burst.  It is a time consuming process but I think worth it.

The lovely delicate edge is cut from the Delicate Lace Edgelits.

The sentiment is stamped in Black and punched with the Tailor Tag Punch.  I punched another piece from Berry Burst card.  Cut that piece in half horizontally then could layer it underneath the stamped piece so you see the little pink edge peeking out.  I finished with some Artisan Pearls and some Silver Thread wrapped around a few times.

Now to get this in to the Facebook group before the time is up tonight.  You can head over to the group -> HERE and join in on the challenges.  It’s a great way to extend your creativity.

Thanks for stopping by,

COLOUR INKSPIRATIONS CHALLENGE #35 WITH NEUTRALS!

Initially this Colour Inkspirations Challenge #CI35 this week stumped me.  All neutrals!  Now with the colour revamp though we had a mix of other colours. (which I am still trying to get my around as neutrals!).

I had a little time today to play – and it’s nice to play with new toys. I used the gorgeous new Botanical Bliss Bundle (Botanical Bliss stamp set and the Botanical Tags Thinlits).

We were required to use 3 of the Neutrals colour collections.  I chose Merry Merlot, Mossy Meadow and Crumb Cake.

The sentiment is stamped and heat embossed in Copper.  It is cut with one of the dies in the new Stitched Labels Framelits. I finished it with some Copper Thread loops.

You can play along too if you are quick.  It finishes Monday night (AET).  Head -> HERE to the Facebook group.

LIFT ME UP FOR COLOUR INKSPIRATION CHALLENGE #27

I wasn’t sure if I would get to join in on this colour challenge.  I really wanted to.  The colours are so pretty together and it has been on my mind the last 2 weeks.  Yesterday was a rainy day here which meant I could sneak away and play. 🙂

These are the colours for the Colour Inkspirations #27 challenge this week. Powder Pink, Pool Party, Melon Mambo, Island Indigo.

When I sit down to make a card for a challenge I pull out the inkpads first and see how they sit together.  Then pull out the stamps that I think might work well with these colours.  After tossing around a few ideas and looking on Pinterest for some inspiration I decided to work with the Lift Me Up set.  (well dusted it off!!).  This is the card that resulted.  Have to say it didn’t take that long to pull this all together.  For me that’s pretty good. 🙂

THE PROCESS OF STAMPING THE HOT AIR BALLOONS

I gave the Hot Air Balloons a 2-tone effect.  To do this I first inked up the balloon in the lighter ink, for example the Powder Pink, then patted on the darker ink on to the lower half of the balloon.  Then stamped the balloon on to the Whisper White card.  I cleaned the stamp before inking again using the same process.  Then changed inks and did the same with the Pool Party with Island Indigo.  I will say I was a little nervous  stamping it straight on the card in case I messed it up. Also, it was a little tricky to see how much I have inked the stamp but you know, it’s only a little bit of white card.  If it doesn’t work well just turn the card over and try again OR get another piece of card.  No stress. 🙂

To assemble the card I adhered the stamped white piece on to a mat of Powder Pink and on to a card base in Pool Party.  The sentiment was stamped on a strip of Powder Pink card.  Then to finish I cut a detailed Hot Air Balloon from the Up and Away Thinlits in Silver Foil and a few clouds in Vellum.  Of course, Rhinestones were added for the bling factor.

So I got it done in time- and posted to the Facebook group Thankfully.  If you want to join the group and see all the creations then head -> HERE.

COLOUR INKSPIRATIONS #26 – 3 GREEN LADIES!

I was stumped this week for the Colour Inkspirations challenge.  I love green and I use a lot of green but to use all these colours together was hard.

I tried a couple of different things and it just wasn’t working.  This card was maybe the 4th stamped attempt.  I went back to my 3rd attempt and ended up finishing up with this.  Still not sure.  It’s simple which is what I do but it’s just not enough I think.  Anyway, I thought I would show you.

The lady from Beautiful You is stamped in each of the greens and then the centre filled with the pattern in the Sahara Sand.  I used the Sahara Sand marker to fill in the hat.

The “dots” are from Timeless Textures.  They were stamped in the Sahara Sand and then I stamped some with Versamark and embossed them in Gold.  The sentiment and Banner is from Happy Birthday Gorgeous.  I wrapped around some Gold Thread before adhering the card to a piece of the Bubbles and Fizz DSP.  That worked well. The little flower is from the Sprinkles of Life set and punched with the Tree Builder Bunch.  That was an afterthought this morning when I looked at the card again in the light.

So nothing fancy and I didn’t have a lot of time this weekend.  But I am  putting it out there to have a go right. 🙂

Thanks for looking today,

Jenny.

ECLIPSE TOUCHES OF TEXTURE FOR CI18!

It’s another Colour Challenge at Colour INKspirations group –  Colour INKspirations #18

The colours this round are so pretty. Powder Pink, Basic Gray, Sahara Sand and Sweet Sugarplum.

So of course the card had to be pretty right?  I hope my card is anyway.

I have been playing around with the Eclipse Technique lately.  You might have seen that around your blog travels.  To do the Eclipse technique: You stamp over your white card mat (or you could use a piece of Designer Series Paper).  Then cut your letters or shapes out from the piece.  Once the card (or Paper) is adhered to your card mat, the letters are then adhered back on to your card mat raised up with Dimensionals giving a 3D look.

This is my card I created using the colours and using the set Touches of Texture.

The “Just For” is stamped in Basic Gray from the Work of Art stamp set.  Check the dragonfly.  I stamped it on Vellum and coloured it in on the back with markers. Then went over it with the Wink of Stella pen.

You still have time to have a play.  Head -> HERE to join the Facebook group if you are not already a member there.  Challenges are great to take part in.

EDITED TO ADD:  I was picked in the TOP 5 at Colour Inkspirations challenge for this card.  So that is very exciting! 🙂

Thanks for looking.  Have a great day,

Jenny

A TOUGH ONE FOR COLOUR INKSPIRATIONS #12!

I have missed the Colour Inkspirations Challenges the last couple of weeks.  I thought I would steal a bit of time to join in this round.  I have to say though this was tough!  So many colours!! Here is the image.  We were required to use at least 4 colours but neutrals can be added.   I usually only use 2-3 colours on my projects.  After that it gets confusing.  But it is good to challenge oneself. 🙂

Here is the colour inspiration to use.

What do you think??

To start with before tackling the card I pulled out all the inkpads in those colours to see what worked together.  Then pulled out all my stamp sets that might be suitable.  Then picked out the stamp sets from those that I might like to use.  I did a little search on Pinterest to get some ideas. I hadn’t used the Watercolor Wings set for a while so thought that might be good.

Where to go then?  I went through my sketches board on Pinterest and found this sketch to work with, Freshly Made Sketches #291.

Here is my card for Colour Inkspirations #12.  I chose Night of Navy, Flirty Flamingo, Smoky Slate and Peekaboo Peach.

I stamped the sketchy butterflies in the different cards over a white panel and then cut about 3cm off the top (about 1 1/4″).  Then adhered that to a Peekabook card mat and then the Whisper White card base.

I stamped the butterfly in Peekaboo Peach with 2 of the different stamps in the set.  The outline image of the butterfly was heat embossed with Silver Embossing Powder.  Plus stamped the black abdomen of the butterfly. It’s hard to tell but I did cut another butterfly out with Vellum to add behind this one and then added some Silver Thread.

The sentiment was punched out with the Duet Banner Punch and then another one punched from Silver Foil and they were layered together.  I added some Silver Thread to that too.  It needed something else so then I added some Rhinestones.

I am still not sure about this?? I think it is missing something but … it is what it is!  I don’t have time to make another card for the challenge.   What do you think??

Thanks for visiting.

Have a great day,

Jenny

COLOUR INKSPIRATIONS CHALLENGE #09!

I didn’t think I was going to get time for this week’s colour challenge at Colour Inkspirations.   Then yesterday I had a  little amount of creating time.  I should have been getting some samples ready for my launch or get class cards done but ….

These colours have eluded me this week and I really couldn’t get anything together.

The colours were Cherry Cobbler, Dapper Denim and Pool Party.  Well, I sat down and created and for some reason in my head it was Bermuda Bay instead of the Dapper Denim.  I just posted it to the challenge page and and have just realised that I have used the wrong colours!! So I guess this is not going to cut it for the challenge.

But I will show you the card because you might like it even in those colours right??? 🙂

I wasn’t sure where this card was going at the beginning but I thought that the Best Birds set might be good with these colours.  I thought about stamping the birds and watercolouring them but then decided to do a background.  I have wanted to try this technique for a while so this might work well.  I will tell you about that below.

THE BACKGROUND

The background is created by inking the block, spritzing it with water lightly and then stamping.  I don’t know what this technique is called.  Direct to block stamping with a mist.  LOL! Here is exactly how.

First press the lighter colour inkpad over your block.  Take the next colour ink and press it over parts of the block.  You might like to take a sponge and dab the ink in places in the centre of the block where the inkpad won’t reach.

Then with your next colour, sponge the colour in different parts over the block by dabbing the sponge in the inkpad and patting on the block.

This is roughly what it will look like after you have inked the block.

Then using a spritzer or small water spray bottle lightly mist over the block with water.  Place the inked block upside down on to your card.  I used the Shimmery white or you could use watercolour paper.  Allow the card to dry.  You will find that each time you do this the results will be different so have fun and play with it.

TO FINISH THE CARD

Mat the piece on to black card.  Then adhere the piece to the Bermuda Bay card base which I stamped the “hashed” background on to it with Bermuda Bay ink.

Die cut 2 birds from Birds and Blooms Thinlits in black cardstock.  For the stem I first cut the branch from this Thinlits set but I thought it was too thick.  This stem is from the Stylish Stems Framelits.

Stamp the sentiment in versamark on to a piece of  black cardstock, tip over the White embossing powder and heat to set it.  Then cut the piece with the small oval from the Stitched Shapes Framelits. Twirl some Silver Thread behind the piece and then raise it off the card with Dimensionals.

Lastly, stamp a flower from the Birds and Blooms set and colour it with Bermuda Bay ink.

So while it is not right for this colour challenge I liked the end result – and I got to play with the Birds and Blooms set which I hadn’t for so long. So all is not lost. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by.  Back again soon,

Jenny

TOP 5 PICK FOR COLOUR INKSPIRATIONS #06!

I am a little excited!  I have just been chosen as a TOP 5 Pick for this past week’s Colour INKspirations Challenge #06.  This was for my Dragonfly Dreaming card I showed recently. It’s nice to know they liked my card.  I can now proudly display the badge on my blog. 🙂

This was my card if you didn’t see it.

I am really enjoying taking part in these challenges.  It has helped me think about my stamping a bit more and to give things a go.  Life is crazy, busy but it has been good to take some time out and stamp something for myself.

If you want to join in too then head over to the Facebook Group Page HERE and check it out.

Wishing you a happy day/night.

FALLING PETALS SPOTLIGHTING!

This weekend I have had a play at this week’s Colour Inkspirations Challenge #05.  The colours we had were Blushing Bride, Soft Sky and Sahara Sand.

They are such pretty soft colours and lend themselves to cute baby cards or soft floral or even butterflies??

Recently I shared a card with you of a different way to use the Falling Petal Embossing Folder.  You can see that post HERE if you missed it.  I have wanted to play with this idea since then and thought I would try it out with this challenge.  This is the card I ended up with.

The lighting is not very good today.  It is wet and overcast so not the best.  Actually it has been torrential rain for the past week!

To the card:  The base card is Blushing Bride and the mat is Sahara Sand.  I embossed a Whisper White card mat with the Falling Petals Embossing Folder.  Tied around some White Baker’s Twine before adhering it to the Sahara Sand card mat and card base. I cut a piece of Thick Whisper White with one of the larger Layering Circles Framelits Dies and embossed it with the Falling Petals Embossing Folder.

On this circle piece I created some little flowers with the embossed hearts/petals.  I used the Sahara Sand Marker to first draw some lines from each petal to create the flower stems.  Then coloured each flower with the Blushing Bride inkpad and Blender Pen. Then with the Aquapainter I added a light wash with the Soft Sky inkpad around the flowers. Just a note: After giving it a light wash with the Soft Sky it did wash out the Sahara Sand stems so I went over that lightly again.  I went over the petals with the clear Wink of Stella pen too to add some sparkle but it is hard to tell in the photo.

This coloured piece was then adhered on to a Blushing Bride circle a bit larger. I then adhered it to the white card mat lining it up roughly in the same place.  This created a type of spotlighting of the petals at the top of the card.

The sentiment is from Birthday Blossoms and cut with the Project Life Framelits.  I added some small adhesive pearls to the sentiment piece.  A small dragonfly was cut from the Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper to add some extra sparkle.

What do you think of this card?? I felt it was missing something?? Not sure.

Anyway, I think these challenges are good.  It makes you think a lot about your creating. It’s nice to steal away a little “me” time stamping too.

I hope you have a lot of creating opportunities this coming week.

Jenny
