FALLING PETALS SPOTLIGHTING!

This weekend I have had a play at this week’s Colour Inkspirations Challenge #05.  The colours we had were Blushing Bride, Soft Sky and Sahara Sand.

They are such pretty soft colours and lend themselves to cute baby cards or soft floral or even butterflies??

Recently I shared a card with you of a different way to use the Falling Petal Embossing Folder.  You can see that post HERE if you missed it.  I have wanted to play with this idea since then and thought I would try it out with this challenge.  This is the card I ended up with.

The lighting is not very good today.  It is wet and overcast so not the best.  Actually it has been torrential rain for the past week!

To the card:  The base card is Blushing Bride and the mat is Sahara Sand.  I embossed a Whisper White card mat with the Falling Petals Embossing Folder.  Tied around some White Baker’s Twine before adhering it to the Sahara Sand card mat and card base. I cut a piece of Thick Whisper White with one of the larger Layering Circles Framelits Dies and embossed it with the Falling Petals Embossing Folder.

On this circle piece I created some little flowers with the embossed hearts/petals.  I used the Sahara Sand Marker to first draw some lines from each petal to create the flower stems.  Then coloured each flower with the Blushing Bride inkpad and Blender Pen. Then with the Aquapainter I added a light wash with the Soft Sky inkpad around the flowers. Just a note: After giving it a light wash with the Soft Sky it did wash out the Sahara Sand stems so I went over that lightly again.  I went over the petals with the clear Wink of Stella pen too to add some sparkle but it is hard to tell in the photo.

This coloured piece was then adhered on to a Blushing Bride circle a bit larger. I then adhered it to the white card mat lining it up roughly in the same place.  This created a type of spotlighting of the petals at the top of the card.

The sentiment is from Birthday Blossoms and cut with the Project Life Framelits.  I added some small adhesive pearls to the sentiment piece.  A small dragonfly was cut from the Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper to add some extra sparkle.

What do you think of this card?? I felt it was missing something?? Not sure.

Anyway, I think these challenges are good.  It makes you think a lot about your creating. It’s nice to steal away a little “me” time stamping too.

I hope you have a lot of creating opportunities this coming week.

CHANGING THE DRESS LINE OF THE BEAUTIFUL YOU LADY!

I have been sharing lots of projects with the ‘Beautiful You’ set this past week.  When I first started seeing ideas with this set on Pinterest I noticed that some of the dresses were different.  I was curious and went investigating further. I thought I would share with you today how it can be done so you can create more with this set.

I have put together a tutorial for you.

CHANGING THE DRESS LINE.

1. You can do either of two things. a) draw over the top part of the lady with the Black Stampin’ Write Marker or what I have done b) Place the stamp on the table top facing up. Mask the skirt area with a Post It note or piece of scrap paper. Leaving the stamp on the table ink up the stamp with the Black StazOn inkpad.  I have used StazOn as you will be watercolouring the image.

2. Stamp the image onto Thick Whisper White, Shimmery White card or Watercolor Paper as you will be watercolouring it.

3. With the Black Marker draw a skirt line that you would like.  If you prefer use a pencil and then go back over it with the Marker. You could create any style, short or long.

4. To Watercolour this I used the Real Red Watercolor Pencil, colour along the lines of the dress and the hat.  Using the Aquapainter blend over the colour.  You can build up the colour as you desire by going over the area but allow it to dry a little before adding more colour.

Assemble your card as you like.

To create this card I cut the image with the Layering Oval Framelits cutting a larger one with the Red Glimmer Paper. The sentiment was stamped in black and cut with a Framelit from the Stylish Stems.  Using the Duet Banner Punch I cut a banner from the Red Glimmer Paper and cut it down in the centre to adhere behind the sentiment.

To finish I looped around some Copper Thread and raised that off some Whisper White mat which had been embossed with the Falling Petals Embossing Folder.  Base card is Real Red.

Hope that was helpful for you.  You can use this idea to change different stamps. Go and experiment.

A DIFFERENT WAY WITH FALLING PETALS!

Another project from my Catalogue Review last week.  I thought this needed it’s own post. 🙂

At my classes I show the cards and give everyone the same materials but I am happy for them to use their own creativity.  I always learn so much when they do too.  I thought I would share this idea with you.  It’s pretty clever – and a pretty card too.

This was made by my lovely friend Harmony who is very creative.  I love watching her work.  This is what she created with some of the card she was given – and she used the Falling Petals Embossing in a totally different way.  Check it out.

Harmony embossed the white card with the Embossing Folder.  Then with the fine tip end of the Black Marker she drew lines down from some of the petals.  I think they look like hearts a lot of them.  This created little heart petals.  Then with the Aquapainter (I didn’t have the blender pen available at the time) she very lightly coloured some of the petals with the Blushing Bride ink.  It is regular Whisper White card so you don’t want to press too heavily with the colouring using the Aquapainter.  Then she sponged the edge of the card and distressed it slightly. The sentiment is from Dragonfly Dreams.

Isn’t this so pretty?  What a great idea!  I have to try this myself sometime.  I forgot to take a photo of the other card she made.  Completely different again!

Thanks for visiting.  If you want to give her some comment love I will be sure to pass it on. 🙂

ROSE WONDER WEDDING CARD!

Today we went to a wedding.  It was a really lovely service and special to be a part of it. This was for friends of Josh’s and he was one of the Groomsmen.  He looked pretty swish if you ask me but I can say that because I am his mum. 🙂

We managed to grab a family snap.  It is not often that we are all together. I don’t often share family stuff here but today I will….. 🙂

Anyway, you didn’t come here to see family snaps you want to see crafty projects.  I wanted to share the Wedding card I made.  Now I have known about this wedding for months as you do but I just didn’t know how to go about this card.  The Invitation had Ombre blue stripes so I considered working something in with that but I ended up with this.  Hope the Bride and Groom like it.

I went with Dapper Denim card base and Soft Sky mat.  On the White card I stamped the sentiment from Rose Wonder. If you can see closely at the bottom is a new Embossing Folder from the Upcoming Occasions Catalogue.  I broke it out of it’s package just for this! This is the ‘Falling Petals’ Textured Impressions Folder.  They look like falling hearts.  Just a couple of Tips with this folder:  1) When you emboss you might get little marks or the “hearts” squished looking.  I added a piece of scrap paper in the folder on top of the card when I embossed it which prevented this. 2) This embossing folder covers the full card but I didn’t want all the card covered only to emboss just the bottom edge. This was hard to do because of the position of the hearts.  So I cut a separate small strip of Whisper White card the width of the full white card piece and embossed just the strip.  Then I adhered that piece straight on to the card. You wouldn’t even know!

The ribbon used is not Stampin’ Up!  The larger swirly hearts are cut from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits.  I cut one in Dapper Denim and one in Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper. The little sparkly heart is a heart punched from the 2-Step Owl Punch in Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.  It adds a little sparkle.

This is the inside of the card.

Mmm? Shame the lighting isn’t great.  The weather has been a bit funny.  Hope you get the idea anyway.

This sentiment is also from Rose Wonder set.  I thought it needed something else to the inside so I punched some little hearts from the 2-Step Owl Punch in Dapper Denim and Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.

Thanks for visiting today.
